President's Message - November 2025
Best greetings. Following is brief summary of our 2025 achievements. The Branch Executive and volunteers have truly moved our Branch forward on financial security, the renewal of our building and property, membership and participation, and on the Victoria poppy fund. Let’s share a quick overview.
Financial -
The Branch secured a three-year permissive tax exemption with the City of Victoria. This will reduce our total tax hit by a minimum of $512,000. In securing the exemption we detailed the many benefits the Branch provides to our community. Thank you to the Mayor and Council.
We also retired our mortgage … yes, the Branch is now debt-free. Celebration to come.
The Branch hosts a range gaming events and funds raised are donated to local charities supporting veterans and our community, This year we have donated $100,000; Tuesday bingo contributing 41% of these funds.
Building & Grounds –
The building exterior has been scrubbed and repainted … some 13 bags of garbage were taken off the roof and the downspouts replaced. Parking lot lighting, curbing, storm drains and security cameras upgraded.
As approved in the 2025 Budget our kitchen has been improved greatly with a new cold preparation table, new freezers and an industrial refrigerator. Both the bar glass washer and kitchen dish washer have been replaced.
Membership –
Our membership has grown to almost 1,800. We host a range of games and sports events all having large participation levels.
Victoria Poppy Fund -
Our Branch is a Victoria poppy fund engine and our collective efforts this year raised some $260,000 so far. These funds assist local veterans, their families, and their community. The Branch has provided 53 cases of food and dry goods to Veterans House Victoria.
I want to thank the Executive for their energy and effort in securing these improvements. Thank you to the volunteers and we hope you enjoyed the volunteer’s dinner. Also, thank you to our hard-working staff.
We can all be proud of our Branch achievements this year. Enjoy the holiday season and do stay safe.
